VA Disability Rates
Veterans Care Advisors
VA disability rates are set by law each year effective the first of
each December. The rate increase in the veterans
disability payments will be seen in the January check.
You can find the 2009 VA
disability rates here.
The VA pays the benefit in arrears to the actual qualifying time frame.
For example, a veteran in Texas receives home care services
in the month of January and pays for the cost out of his or her current
income.
Based on this qualified medical expense (among other
disability
pension qualification factors) the Texas veterans
benefits will be paid to him or her the beginning of February.

Surviving Spouse
It is important to note that the veterans disability benefits is only
for the veteran and not the surviving spouse. The surviving
spouse of a war-time veteran may instead qualify for VA death
benefits. This is benefit works exactly like the
veterans
disability benefits and has the same requirements. Just the VA
disability rates payable are different.
